Installing BAPS on Windows 7.
BAPS 6.0 for 64-bit Windows 7 systems is now available (latest upgrade on May 12th 2013) here. This Windows version requires installation of Matlab runtime component (MCR) v7.17, which is downloadable from here. Depending on your computer setup, MCR may additionally require installation of this Windows SDK and .NET framework. NB! A bug was discovered in the data pre-processing function of the tandem package hierBAPS and a corrected version (dated August 15 2013) is now downloadable here. The bug may have affected the clustering results if the alignment contained plenty of gaps or missing values, so it is recommendable to re-do the analysis with the new version. For usage see readme.txt in the folder and the general BAPS 6.0 manual on BAPS main page. hierBAPS requires the same MCR version as BAPS 6.0.
BAPS 5.4 for 64-bit Windows 7 systems is now available here. To make BAPS executable functional install first the Matlab runtime component version (MCR 7.13), which is downloadable from here. Note! If your computer does not have a 64-bit C++ compiler installed (Visual Studio 2008 SP 1), it is necessary to download and install the followingupdate from Microsoft before installing the MCR (if the link doesn't work, here is a local copy of the installer file). NB boot your computer after installing MCR, otherwise BAPS might not launch correctly!
If you have Windows 7 Professional, you can download the virtual XP mode and install Matlab there. I did not find another solution even after a lot of trials, e.g. The different compatibility modes, disabling modern window styles, running Matlab without Java or with newer Java engines. 1st thing, not all releases of Matlab are created equal. My favorite one for Simulink is R11.1; Version 5.3 of Matlab and Version 3 of Simulink. Released in 1999. The installer won't run on a 32-bit machine but through a fairly convoluted method I can install it on Windows 7.
BAPS 5.4 contains some new functionality not explained in the manuals below. An upgrade of the manuals will appear soon.
Manual for parallel use of BAPS 5.3 software is here. A general manual for BAPS 5.3 is here. The examples of data formatting referred to in the manual are in this zipped folder: ExamplesDataFormatting.zip.
